First things first: on the last day of this old year, I’d like to thank you for sticking with me. Let’s celebrate all the positive things we’ve achieved, together and individually.
On every December 31, I like to look back. The Romans knew a thing or two by honouring Janus.
The past is certain.
Think about how far you have come in your book and writing journey this year. Take a moment to feel joy and contentment in what you have achieved.
The future is uncertain – that’s the point of ‘what-hasn’t happened yet’.
Uncertain doesn’t mean unhappy or fearful. It means, anything could happen.
That’s kind of exciting, right? Joyful, start of a journey, exciting?
Plane-engines-screaming-for-take-off, anchor-chains-rattling, train-whistle-hooting-across-the-valley kind of Exciting.
We can make resolutions and fill our planners and comfort ourselves we have some control over the future – that’s great, and I do.
But we also need to make space to create. To carve out time and fence ourselves off from the minute by minute demands of a busy life.
To consolidate, and carry out our dream of finishing our books.
Getting back into the writing flow after the Holidays can be tricky. On the one hand, you feel refreshed. On the other, you’ve lost your rhythm.
Remember your best writing periods last year? Recreate the conditions but don’t try to do it all at once. Build it up as if you were in training for a marathon – one step at a time.
