What's a book coach?

Book coaching as a profession has been around for a few years.

It evolved from the vacuum created in the last decade as publishers slashed editor headcount and marketing budgets.

A book coach does more than edit the written word on the page.

Different book coaches do different things. Shop around for the right one for you.

So what is it you do, exactly?

I work with busy professionals and business owners who want to write a book.

I help you get started with your book, or unstuck, if you need to know what to do next.

I help you get clear on what your book is going to say and who is going to want to read it.

In cycles of written assignments, feedback and one-to-one coaching, I help you articulate your ideas with razor-sharp clarity.

We build your book from the foundations up and I help you position your book for the market by showing you how to write a book proposal.

This is all to give your book the best possible chance of success with publishers, agents and your readers.

And I help you make a plan to publish your book, whether you want to secure a contract with publishers, find an agent or publish independently.

When we meet on a Clarity Call, we talk about your goals for your book and we make a plan to meet those goals by ongoing coaching.

So, if you want to find out if your book idea is any good, I coach you on the strength of your idea. And I bring my industry knowledge to help you decide if you are going to invest more time and money in the project.

And if you want to get going and write your book proposal, then we knuckle down and work on it until you have a robust, polished proposal that makes the best possible argument for publishing your book.

Will a Clarity Call commit me?

No, it won’t.

I understand your concern. It’s scary, to book a call with a stranger.

I’m scary.

(Mistake, surely? Typo for ‘caring’? Ed.)

The point of the Clarity Call is to meet and discuss your book.

On the call, I will explain how you enter into paid coaching with me but there is no obligation to take that step.

If your intuition is that I’m not a good fit for you and your book, you’re probably right. I want you to follow your instinct. You have many options.

What's my next step?

Or if you are feeling shy and prefer to find out what I am about before meeting me on a call, take my mini-course, Reboot Your Book.

It’s enormous value at only $47 and it will show you my coaching style as well as helping you to take the very first steps in book coaching.

About me

I am an international book coach and one of a handful of book coaches who have earned dual-certification: in fiction and in nonfiction book coaching.

I trained with, and am certified by, Author Accelerator after taking a series of exams that were intensely practical and involved working with real writers to coach them through writing their book from the flicker of their idea through to seeking publication.

To date, I have supported over sixty writers in their book journeys.

I work with clients in multiple time zones across the USA, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
