Write your Book

With my help, you write your book to a fast-paced timetable.

You’ll have my support all the way through.

“I am afraid I will never finish my book.”

You will conquer that limiting belief.

My job is to make sure you don’t:

๐Ÿ“— Rework old ground

๐Ÿ“— Change course on a whim

๐Ÿ“— Second-guess yourself.

There is no need to be intimidated by the prospect of writing your book.

You don’t need to be frightened that you will not finish it.

You will bring it to life, following the structure we’ve worked on together.

Are you ready?

If you want to give yourself the best chance of success in writing your book with me, you will have done this:

๐Ÿ“— You have envisaged your reader and begun to write for her.

๐Ÿ“— You have made important design decisions: what will you say? What will you not say?

๐Ÿ“— You have decided what your book is, and is not, by comparing it to other books in the market.

๐Ÿ“— You have an outline marketing plan.

๐Ÿ“— You have got a really clear outline that takes account of all these things and will show you how to write the best version of your book.

I canโ€™t guarantee that you will finish.

That’s in your hands, to turn up at your desk at the times we agree to keep plugging away at the work.

But I can guarantee you will have my encouragement and attention as you write.

I will hold you accountable as you write your book

I offer two levels of service:

๐Ÿ“—Full Cream, or

๐Ÿ“—Semi-skimmed.

Full Cream Accountability Service

Semi-skimmed Accountability Service

Which you choose depends on how much input you want from me while you write.

This is what you get

Whichever you choose: we will name your goal, set some assumptions, and make a plan.

Name your goal

Your goal could be to:

๐Ÿ“— To write the full manuscript of your book so that it is ready for copyediting before publishing.

๐Ÿ“— To write it while your book coaching is still fresh in your mind. You don’t want to hang about.

Maybe time is snapping at your heels and you worry someone else is writing a book on a similar thing.

Your goal is not to write a publish-ready manuscript.

It is not an efficient use of your or my time to perfect and correct the book at this stage on a line-by-line basis. That’s for the copyedit before you publish.

Itโ€™s likely that the most important things for you are:

๐Ÿ“— To finish the draft manuscript within a fixed number of months, and

๐Ÿ“— To keep up a cracking pace to get this done.

Set some Assumptions

This is a major project, and like all good project managers, we assess the risks and dependencies of the project and we make some assumptions.

Let’s take an example, so you can see how this might apply to your own book.

Assumptions

You have written a well-structured Annotated Table of Contents so you know exactly what you need to write about in each chapter of the book.

You’re aiming for a book 60,000 words long.

You want to finish in six months time.

You have 12 chapters and an introduction to write.

You need to be able to take a break mid-way.

Make a plan

You feel able to work on one chapter every two weeks.

This will mean you keep up a cracking pace. If you stick to the plan, you will finish the full draft your book in six months time.

You will keep up the momentum generated by book coaching and you can act before the heat goes out of your desire to finish writing your book.

And it has to be said, there is nothing like paying someone to keep you accountable to give you the impetus to reach your goal.

It does increase your personal stake. You have skin in the game. It’s much more difficult to say, “Nah. Not this weekend. I don’t really feel like it.”

This is how you get professional about your writing.

And this is the Accountability piece

Your commitment

Suppose we agree your plan is to write your book in six months.

That is 26 weeks.

Take two weeks off for a holiday.

So, you need to make time to write 2,500 words each week for 24 weeks.

When you know what you need to write (which you will do, because your book has been coached by me), you will be able to write 2,500 in two days each week or in ten hours per week.

Divide up your time how you like. A full morningย  could be 3 hours. A full day, a maximum 5 hours. It’s hard to write for longer and keep up the pace.

If you write easily and are under a lot of time pressure to get your book done, we can work to a faster timetable.ย

My commitment

We agree a minimum number of words for you to turn at regular intervals.

The number of words I actually review, and how, will depend on the level of service you choose.

We will decide before we start work whether you will be writing in UK or US English. Your decision will be based on the market you are writing to.

All good project managers allow for slippage in the timetable. I include a tolerance of six weeks overrun for six month projects.

If you need more support to continue after the end of that period, we can discuss terms.

Bonus Call

In both the Full Cream and Semi-skimmed Services, I offer a bonus wrap-up call at the end.

This is so that we can review any outstanding issues and make sure you are clear about what you need to do next, either to finish writing or to seek a copyedit of your work.

Apart from the bonus wrap-up call, both services are email-based.

You always have the option to book a paid consultation with me if you reach a sticky point you want to be coached through.

Full Cream Service

You get my professional input on the actual language you have used to write the book as you write each chapter, in addition to accountability.

I require you to turn in your chapters to me on the days we agree, on time and to schedule (usually by 8 am UK time on Mondays) and that you adhere to the framework determined by the Annotated Table of Contents.

The value to you as you write is that I can tell you if you have been clear enough to show the reader what you really mean.

You can rely on me to pick up any gaps in the logical flow of your argument.

I make sure that the style, word choice and tone is right for your work.

I look for contradictions, repetitions and factual errors.

You keep writing because you know I am waiting to receive your next chapter by a certain date and time.

And you know I will be here for you if you need support with your mindset, or to suggest practical adjustments to your writing routine to keep you on track.

Each chapter will shine, and you will build momentum as a direct result of my support. For an idea of the cost, see here.

Semi-skimmed Service

I hold you accountable to turn in your chapters to me on the days we agree, on time and to schedule and that you adhere to the framework determined by the ATOC.

Each session, I review your pages up to the number of words we agree, to ensure that the flow follows the framework of the ATOC, or point out where it deviates.

While I will draw attention to egregious deviations from the norm of, or errors in, word choice, tone and style, I won’t re-write or suggest rephrasing.

The value to you as you write is that you know I am waiting to receive your next chapter by a certain date and time so you keep writing your book.ย

You know I will be here for you if you need additional support with mindset or to suggest practical adjustments to your writing routine to keep you on track.

You will also have the reassurance of knowing that your pages reflect for a reader what you have planned in the ATOC.
